Sustainability Manager

About the role

A global mining and metallurgy company, expanding through a joint venture project, is looking for a Sustainability Manager based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The role leads a team on sustainability issues that sit at the top of the agenda for public and private sectors and society, supporting internal clients with strategic sustainability initiatives, ESG policy advice and the integration of ESG into operations. It aims to design and implement solutions to global issues such as climate change and social inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Follow the evolution of Indonesian regulations and international standards relevant to the scope of work
• Lead the implementation of sustainability strategies, policies and ESG documentation aligned with local and international requirements
• Develop and run systems that make reporting and information sharing more efficient, accurate and impactful
• Liaise with key stakeholders, including selecting and managing community investment partners
• Work with group leaders, committees and external sustainability consultants to analyse performance and set key performance indicators
• Facilitate sustainability training, audits, inspections and compliance reporting, and provide follow-up recommendations and action plans
• Ensure all departments meet the Group's sustainability standards, including procurement (responsible sourcing vendors and sustainability service providers)
• Manage internal and external sustainability communications and create continual educational resources
• Institutionalise sustainability through documented policies and regular reviews, and benchmark industry practices
• Drive project plans and partner with Public Affairs and Communications to promote the Group's sustainability commitment

Required profile

• Minimum of 15 years' professional experience in an ESG or sustainability role
• Master's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Experience developing sustainability processes and project or programme management, particularly with NGOs
• Multicultural working experience

Required skills

• Excellent understanding of global ESG agendas, policies and standards, especially Equator Principles, IFC Sustainability Performance Standards and IRMA
• Experience with ESG due diligence and surveillance under Equator Principles project financing; green finance experience (e.g. green bonds) is an asset
• Sharp analytical and strategic thinking, and excellent communication, interpersonal and management skills
• Proficiency in English is a must
