Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer

About the role

The Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer will support the STRIDES activity in Indonesia, focusing on strengthening veterinary laboratory systems and zoonotic disease detection in priority provinces. The role involves hands‑on technical assistance to improve diagnostic capacity, biosafety, quality management and outbreak preparedness.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day technical support for molecular diagnostics, zoonotic disease detection, biosafety, biosecurity and quality systems across veterinary labs.
• Assist with laboratory assessments, technical trainings, workforce development, specimen referral and laboratory information systems (IVLab, iSIKHNAS).
• Develop technical briefs, reports, SOPs, presentations and guidance materials.
• Monitor implementation progress and coordinate with government counterparts, laboratories and stakeholders.
• Support implementation of laboratory quality standards, including QMS and QA/QC practices.
• Collaborate with surveillance, data and outbreak response teams to align with One Health priorities.
• Participate in field‑based laboratory activities in STRIDES priority provinces.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Laboratory Science or a related field (veterinary background preferred).
• Minimum three years of relevant experience in veterinary or zoonotic disease laboratory work.
• Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
