Education Specialist – TUNTAS Program

About the role

The TUNTAS Education Specialist is the program's technical education expert, supporting the Program Manager in setting strategic direction, maintaining technical quality and ensuring effective implementation. The role works with the Education Technical Advisor and implements an integrated package of technical assistance to district and provincial governments to prevent school dropout and improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. The program covers four districts in West Java (Bogor and Depok) and East Java (Sidoarjo and Malang), with regular support to partners in Bogor and Depok.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for the program, ensuring quality of design and implementation and integrating GEDSI, disability inclusion, climate change, child protection and child participation
• Advise partners and coordinate with the National Education Technical Advisor so that implementation meets quality standards
• Help the Program Manager develop a Detailed Implementation Plan, including monitoring and evaluation, and raise implementation issues with recommendations
• Work with district-level partners on quality delivery, monthly narrative and financial reporting, capacity-building plans and joint monitoring visits
• Conduct regular visits to program areas, quality assurance checks and education needs assessments, and collect and analyse data to inform decisions
• Work with the MEAL team on logframes, indicators, M&E frameworks, research and learning agendas, and manage knowledge and documentation
• Support timely narrative and financial reporting, and act as a role model for the organization's values and dual mandate
• Support emergency response activities and financial and budget management when needed

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Education Management, Early Childhood Education or a related field; a Master's degree is highly preferred
• 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience designing and managing education programs, ideally on foundational learning and teacher professional development
• Demonstrated experience with government counterparts, development partners and civil society organizations in education
• Experience with an international NGO or similar organization
• Extensive experience managing complex donor compliance, financial and budgetary control, and partnerships and partner capacity building

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Indonesia's formal and non-formal education system and its policy environment
• Ability to lead, motivate and mentor teams
