Team Leader, Nature & Low‑Carbon Development

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Indonesia is seeking a senior professional to lead its Nature, Environment and Low‑Carbon Development (NLCD) pillar. Reporting to the Deputy Resident Representative, the Team Leader will provide strategic advice, shape policy, and expand the portfolio to position UNDP as a partner of choice.

Key responsibilities

• Define and continuously refine the strategic direction of the NLCD portfolio, aligning global, regional and national priorities with UNDP’s comparative advantages.
• Position UNDP as a strategic partner and thought leader, identifying emerging policy trends and shaping engagement with government, private sector and development partners.
• Ensure coherence across programmes, linking NLCD initiatives with financing, human development and governance units to maximise impact and innovation.
• Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships, mobilise climate and blended finance, and develop compelling propositions for funders.
• Lead a team of approximately 40 staff, providing clear direction, fostering a high‑performing inclusive culture, and ensuring timely, high‑quality delivery of results.
• Influence national policy and investment decisions by leveraging UNDP’s evidence, expertise and convening power.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic leadership of large, multi‑disciplinary teams in the environment, climate or development sector.
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage high‑level partnerships, secure financing and influence policy at national level.
