Commercial Specialist

About the role

The Commercial Specialist ensures Acorn Strategy fully understands commercial commitments before submitting proposals. Working closely with Business Development, Finance, Operations and Account Management, the role builds defensible cost models, flags hidden effort and commercial risk, and drives compliant, on‑time submissions.

Key responsibilities

• Read RFPs, tenders and client briefs in full, extracting every deliverable, volume, service level and submission requirement.
• Build structured, defensible cost models against the rate card, documenting assumptions for each estimate.
• Identify gaps between client budgets and true delivery costs, escalating material concerns before commitments.
• Raise clarification questions on ambiguous scopes and surface hidden effort early in tender windows.
• Review client terms, NDAs and contractual requirements for commercial impact and route documents for approval.
• Coordinate input from senior stakeholders and cross‑functional teams to keep concurrent submissions on track.
• Maintain a reusable library of proposals, costings, source materials and commercial records.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Commercial Management, Project Management or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of agency‑side experience in commercial, scoping, bid‑management or proposal‑management roles, preferably in communications, creative or social media services.
• Proven ability to interpret complex or poorly structured briefs and translate them into clear scopes of work.
• Strong critical‑thinking skills with confidence to challenge ambiguity and explain commercial consequences.
