Senior Packaging & Labelling Engineer

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Senior Packaging & Labelling Engineer to lead the development, validation, and execution of packaging and labeling solutions for its eye‑care products. The role involves close collaboration with vendors, cross‑functional teams, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliant, efficient, and sustainable packaging processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise packaging systems (pouches, blister trays, cartons, labels, shrink‑wraps, etc.) to meet functional, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct material evaluation, testing, and selection with focus on compatibility, sustainability, manufacturability, durability, and cost.
• Lead prototype design, assembly, testing and line trials to validate new packaging concepts.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, qualification and validation of packaging machinery and inspection systems, including vision systems and inline verification.
• Manage equipment and process validations under the Quality system change‑control process.
• Integrate quality assurance and risk management (pFMEA, QRA) into packaging design and processes.
• Coordinate technology transfer to production with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Regulatory and Supply Chain teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in packaging design and validation for medical devices or pharmaceutical products.
• Proven ability to work with external vendors and manage equipment qualification projects.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and GxP compliance for packaging and labeling.
• Hands‑on experience with vision inspection systems and inline verification equipment.
